( you can also take one of our virtual tours of the neighbouring islands of majorca and ibiza ). perfect beach holiday for families? we visited menorca in the middle of its busiest month for tourists: august 2011. it was our first visit here and we were told to expect a huge choice of beautiful beaches, fantastic weather to relax in, a warm sea ideal for swimming and resorts which are perfect for families with small children you can see the results of our travels in our collection of photographs of menorca , and the virtual tour of the island. all this on a quiet island, with much less development than its neighbours, making menorca a great choice for a perfect beach holiday. so much for the theory... so what did we discover? weather... yes - the weather was fantastic - see our weather page for more details - we could spend every day on the beach. (or we would have done if we weren't travelling round to take these photos!) the evenings were deliciously warm, which meant we could sit outside with a meal or a glass of wine as long as we wished, without needing any extra layers. sea and swimming... the sea was warm - very warm - and would be perfect for toddlers and very young children. even unheated swimming pools were also pleasantly warm and tempting. beaches for young children... many beaches were sandy and very flat, meaning little ones could play safely, without risk of getting out of their depth. (such as cala en porter , cala en blanes , arenal d'en castell , punta prima ). we also discovered that not all beaches were sandy and some were extremely small (see cales piques and cala en forcat ). others were not really beaches at all and had absolutely no sand!
